Dedicated to the memory of Arthur Craven

This site is a tribute to Arthur Craven. He lead an extraordinarily full life and was a successful entrepreneur in many industries. Arthur was one of a rare breed of engineer and salesman, accomplished at many skills. He made many friends with local businessmen and his personal approach was unique. His lunches were legendary; the family and the restaurant trade will miss him.

Thoughts

I remember Arthur and his sister Mary from the Saturday night dances they and their father organised at Horsell Village Hall in the 1940's. Arthur looked after the finances, Mary the dancing and I was the disc jockey for 2s 6d! They would select the records to suit the order of dances. A fine time was had by all. Peter Worsfold

It was in 1982 that I was looking for business premises, and I was given Arthur's contact number. He encouraged us to build our own office on the 1st floor of Unit 2 - at that time just an empty space, cold, dark, and not particularly appealing. Nevertheless we constructed our small unit, but the only doors we could find were old formica 'loo' doors - we were either vacant or engaged!!! Throughout the last 40 years Arthur has helped and supported the business through its many ups and downs. Although I have retired, my business, EPS, is still thriving on The Lansbury Estate. Thank you Arthur. Ed Pepper

Dear Mark, Kathryn, James and Claire, I'd like to add my condolences. I can only imagine how hard it is to have finally said goodbye to Arthur, a lover of lunches and a constant presence in your lives. My memories include your father driving us down to the coast, me sitting in the rear of the Jag, watching the speedometer rise way higher than I had ever seen before! I remember being a guest at family lunches and I felt very included despite being the youngest there. I always felt welcomed in your home by Arthur. I remember some sunny days when visiting Lansbury, where I was embarrassed to find your dad sunbathing - need I say more! It is without question that he loved you all deeply and was happy to share his good fortune with you and your friends. This comes with my love. And best wishes from Marybeth, my mother and Sue, my sister.
